Print paper resting on the studio drying rack

Why four colors
are enough.

A screen can only carry one color at a time. That limit is the best thing about it. You have to decide what the drawing really needs.

Yellow for the open sky. Red for that last heat of the afternoon. Blue for the river. Black for the shapes that hold it together. Where two inks meet, a new color sometimes happens.

I don't try to hide the tiny differences between sheets. A little more blue at the edge, a registration mark a hair to the left. That's the hand in hand-pulled.

A note about
the paper.

I use a 250 gsm acid-free cotton sheet. It takes the ink beautifully and has just enough tooth to remind you it's paper. Keep it out of direct sun, give it an archival mount, and it'll look after the print.
